In Western Australia, families are choosing home education in growing numbers. Whether your child needs a different pace, a more flexible schedule, or simply a way to learn that suits them, homeschooling gives you that freedom.
Under the School Education Act 1999 (WA), parents can register as home educators with the Department of Education. Once registered, you receive a certificate of registration and are assigned a home education moderator.
There are no curriculum materials provided by the Department, and no program submission required at registration. Euka gives you everything your moderator expects to see.
Euka’s program builds on the Western Australian Curriculum, designed from the ground up for home learners from Pre-primary to Year 12. Whether you’re in Perth, Fremantle, Bunbury, the Pilbara, the Kimberley, or anywhere across the state, your child can study at their own pace, on their own schedule.
Ready to enrol?
We offer a curriculum for every stage of learning – kindergarten, primary, secondary, and senior. The first step in enrolling is simply selecting your child’s grade level.
How home education registration works in Western Australia
Home education in Western Australia is a legal, structured pathway. Here’s how to get started.
Contact your local education regional office
Home education registration in WA is managed by the Department of Education through its regional offices. Contact the regional office that covers your area to begin the registration process. The office will provide a form for you to complete and lodge.
Submit your registration
Provide your child’s birth certificate, a valid email, a phone number, and your Western Australian residential address. You do not need to submit your educational program at this stage. Once processed, you receive a certificate of registration and your child’s home education begins from that date.
Meet your home education moderator
After registration, you are assigned a home education moderator from the Department of Education. It is your responsibility to contact your moderator to schedule the initial evaluation within 3 months of registration.
At the first meeting, your educational program for the coming year is reviewed. No progress assessment occurs at this first meeting.
Prepare your educational program
The Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, developed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), may be used as a reference point for your child’s progress. The Department does not provide workbooks, curriculum materials, or program development support. Euka’s Registration Service gives you a complete, documented program that meets everything your moderator expects.
Annual evaluations
Each year, you schedule an evaluation with your moderator at least 21 days before it is due. At the meeting, you present evidence of your child’s progress and your planned program for the coming year. Evaluations can be conducted online, including if your family is travelling.
Evidence can include portfolios, project work, photos, videos, journals, or any record of learning.
The Western Australian Curriculum, covered by Euka
Your home education program in WA may be reviewed at your annual evaluation, and the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, developed by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), may be used as a reference point. Euka’s program is structured to cover every learning area, from Pre-primary through Year 12.
English: Literacy, reading, writing, and language across all year levels.
Mathematics: Numeracy, algebra, geometry, and problem-solving from Pre-primary to Year 12.
Science: Biology, chemistry, physics, and earth sciences, with hands-on activities.
Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS): History, geography, civics, and economics.
The Arts: Visual arts and performing arts, including music, drama, and design.
Languages: Interactive language learning available from primary through secondary.
Health and Physical Education: Wellbeing, nutrition, fitness, and personal development.
Technologies: Digital literacy, design thinking, and emerging technologies.
Many lessons also include printable activity sheets, so families in regional areas, the Pilbara, or the Kimberley with limited connectivity can download and print materials to work through offline.
Why Western Australian families choose homeschooling
Build self confidence through ownership
When children have greater ownership over their learning, they develop real self-belief, and the skills to carry it with them into whatever comes next.
Study anywhere, anytime, at your own pace
Euka’s program is fully online. Your child can study from home, a library, a cafe, or anywhere your family happens to be, whenever works best for you.
Balance study with elite sport, the arts, or life
Homeschooling gives Western Australian students the flexibility to train, compete, perform, or travel without sacrificing their education. Study around surf training, state-level sport, remote travel, or a family relocation, not the other way around.
Safe, supportive learning environment
Away from playground pressures and negative social dynamics, homeschooling gives children the space to focus on learning, build confidence, and grow at their own pace.
A curriculum built for Western Australia
Euka’s program aligns with the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline (SCSA) across all year levels and is structured to meet the Department of Education’s home education requirements. A complete, documented program, so you are fully prepared for every moderator evaluation.
Home education registration and evaluation in Western Australia
Home education registration in Western Australia is managed by the Department of Education under the School Education Act 1999 (WA). Once registered, you are assigned a home education moderator who will conduct an initial evaluation within 3 months, followed by annual evaluations each year.
The Department of Education does not provide curriculum materials, workbooks, or program development support. Euka’s Registration Service prepares all the documentation your moderator expects, including a complete educational program and learning plans across all WA curriculum learning areas.
If your child is currently enrolled at a Western Australian school, you register for home education within 14 days of leaving the school. To withdraw your child, contact the home education team at your regional office.
With greater flexibility, homeschooled kids engage with the world around them more than kids stuck in a classroom. They learn from real-world projects, community groups, sport or excursions, from Perth co-ops to regional WA meetups, and have the time to pursue their passions or take on work experience.
Homeschooled kids are lonely
Homeschooled students socialise in many different ways through sport, clubs, co-ops, meetups, and more. They’re not limited to one classroom, they build friendships across age groups, settings, and interests.
Homeschooled kids don’t do extracurricular activities
Many families specifically choose homeschooling to enable their child to pursue their passion whether that’s music, dance, coding, sport, drama, and more. With the additional flexibility that homeschooling provides, students can balance their learning around their chosen pursuit.
Homeschooled kids just play all day
Homeschooling is far more efficient than a traditional classroom. Euka students enjoy learning in ways that suit them. They complete their required study in around 2 to 3 hours each day; giving them time to dive more deeply into subjects that interest them or pursue their passions.
Homeschooling lacks structure
At Euka, we structure our programs to maximise learning and growth. Our lessons are mapped week-by-week, with progress you can see. Families get the benefit of a clear plan with the freedom to adapt it to their life.
Homeschooling is a last resort
For many Euka families in Western Australia, homeschooling is a conscious choice; a proactive decision to prioritise wellbeing, flexibility, and real-world learning. It’s not a backup plan; it’s a better-fit option.

University pathways for Western Australian students
Home-educated students in Western Australia cannot access the WACE (Western Australian Certificate of Education), the ATAR pathway, or a Year 10 completion certificate through home education alone. Euka’s University Pathway program offers an alternative: a fully assessed senior option for Years 11 and 12, with marked feedback from qualified teachers and an official Academic Transcript.
No WACE or ATAR required.
Students graduate with direct, alternative entry pathways to leading Australian universities: Griffith University College, Southern Cross University College, Deakin University College, RMIT University College, La Trobe University College, and Swinburne University College.
For families who want to explore ATAR options, WA students can also access the SCSA Extranet and OLNA (Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment) independently while home educating. Tertiary admissions in WA are handled by TISC (Tertiary Institutions Service Centre).

Frequently asked questions
Home education registration in WA is managed by the Department of Education under the School Education Act 1999 (WA). Contact your local education regional office to begin the process.
You will need your child’s birth certificate, a valid email, a phone number, and your Western Australian residential address. You do not need to submit your educational program at the time of registration. Once processed, you receive a certificate of registration and are assigned a home education moderator.
If your child is currently enrolled at a school, you register within 14 days of leaving that school.
After registering, you are assigned a home education moderator from the Department of Education. The moderator reviews your educational program and your child’s learning progress through evaluation meetings.
It is your responsibility to contact your moderator to schedule meetings. The initial evaluation must happen within 3 months of registration. After that, annual evaluations are scheduled at least 21 days before they are due.
The moderator does not provide curriculum support or recommend specific resources. Euka’s Registration Service prepares all the documentation your moderator expects.
At your annual evaluation, you present evidence of your child’s learning progress from the past year and your planned program for the coming year.
Evidence can take many forms. The Department accepts portfolios, annotated work samples, journals, observation records, photos, videos, project reports, reading logs, certificates of completion, feedback from tutors or specialists, music performances, artworks, and physical objects such as sewing, woodworking, or baking.
Euka’s program automatically generates a record of your child’s completed work through the Student Portal, making it straightforward to compile evidence for your annual evaluation.
Home-educated students in Western Australia cannot access the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) or the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) pathway through home education alone.
If your child wants to pursue an ATAR, they would need to enrol at a WA secondary school or college for Years 11 and 12.
Euka’s University Pathway program offers an alternative route to university. Students receive marked feedback from qualified teachers, an official Academic Transcript, and direct entry pathways to leading Australian universities without needing WACE or ATAR.
Yes. Home-educated students in Western Australia can accumulate community service hours in Years 10, 11, and 12 and report them to the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) for recording on the Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA).
This is separate from the WACE. The WASSA is a record of achievement that some employers and institutions recognise.
Home-educated students can also complete a VET-accredited course while continuing their home education program.
They are different education pathways with different structures.
Distance education in Western Australia means your child is enrolled in a school such as the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE). They follow a structured school program with teacher-set work and deadlines, and they remain an enrolled school student.
Home education means your child is registered with the Department of Education but is not enrolled in any school. With Euka, your child follows a structured program at their own pace through our Student Portal, without the rigid timetable or school-set deadlines of SIDE.
Yes. Euka works for families anywhere in Western Australia. Whether you’re in Perth, Fremantle, Mandurah, Bunbury, Margaret River, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Broome, or a remote community, the program is fully online and accessible from wherever your family is based.
Many lessons also include printable activity sheets, so families in the Pilbara, the Kimberley, or other areas with limited connectivity can download and print materials to work through offline.
Euka is also a strong option for fly-in-fly-out families, where regular school attendance is not practical.
Yes. Home-educating families with secondary-aged children in Western Australia may be eligible for the Secondary Assistance Scheme payment, which helps with books and other resources. Applications open in Term 1 each year.
Primary-aged home-educated children can also access the in-term swimming program.
Any student from Pre-primary to Year 12 can home educate with Euka. In Western Australia, children must be registered with the Department of Education during their compulsory years of schooling.
The registering parent or legal guardian must be a permanent Australian resident, a New Zealand citizen, or hold a valid visa, with a usual place of residence in Western Australia.
No. Many Euka parents work full-time. Our program is designed for self-directed learning, with built-in marking and easy-to-follow guides that fit into your schedule, not take it over.
No teaching experience is needed. Euka’s program is written by qualified teachers and delivered directly to your child, step by step, lesson by lesson. Parents guide and support; the program does the teaching.

For us this was a perfect introduction to home schooling. The people at Euka are very helpful. They answered every question I had, no matter how small. The curriculum was easy to follow. We are still in our first term, and we can see we will need to tailor the curriculum to suit our child in the coming terms.
