Homeschooling and distance education differ significantly.

Distance education involves students enrolled in a school but being provided their daily school lessons online. They follow a full day study timetable, structured lessons, attend online classes at set times, complete daily assessments, and progress at a fixed class/grade pace, submitting assignments regularly. 

With homeschooling, in contrast, students are registered with the Department of Education but not enrolled in a traditional school. Homeschooling is individualised and self-paced learning, allowing students to work at higher or lower levels in specific subjects and providing them with time to pursue their passions and hobbies during the day.
