Registering and reporting for homeschooling in South Australia
We understand that the mandatory registration process and reporting requirements for the South Australian Government can feel daunting, confusing and overwhelming, not to mention time-consuming.
That’s why we’ve put together this guide, which gives you step-by-step instructions for registering and reporting.
And to streamline the process, Euka offers a Government Registration Service where we compile your child’s learning plans, and a Government Report Creator where we collate the report; to make it easier for you to submit the paperwork to the Government. These services can be purchased together or separately when you enrol your child for a full year (four consecutive terms).

Our Step by Step Guide
Registering your child
Homeschooling families in South Australia with students aged from 6 to 17 are required to register with the South Australian government.
The Government requires:
- A learning program addressing all eight learning areas
- Your child’s birth certificate
Using Euka’s Government Registration Service, we’ll generate your child’s learning plans, so that you can submit the documentation to the Government. Euka can’t submit the application or contact the Government on your behalf; the Department of Education will only engage with the child’s parent or guardian.
Steps to register your child
Here are the steps to register with the SA Government if you’ve purchased the Government Registration Service.
Step 1 – Enrol with Euka
Enrol your child with Euka and purchase the Government Registration Service and Government Report Creator.
Step 2 – Complete the Euka Registration questionnaire
Complete the Euka Registration questionnaire in the Parent Portal. Once we receive your response, we’ll generate your child’s learning plans within 48 hours.
Step 3 – Download learning plans
Download your child’s learning plans from the Parent Portal. You don’t need to submit the Euka documents directly; rather, you need to copy and paste them from your student’s Euka individualised Education Plan when completing the SA registration forms. The Scope and Sequence documents are only for reference and are not required to be submitted for registration purposes in SA.
Step 4 – Request the application form
Complete the online request for an application form on the SA Government website or email Education.HomeEducation@sa.gov.au.
Step 5 – Complete application form
Complete the application form using the Euka learning plans as a reference.
Step 6 – Principal provides additional information
The principal of the enrolled school is notified and is invited to provide any relevant information to the home education unit.
Step 7 – Apply for 4-week exemption with principal
If you want to start homeschooling immediately while the application is being assessed, you can apply for a 4-week initial exemption school with the principal.
Step 8 – Home education officer arranges meeting
A home education officer will arrange a meeting to assess your application.
Step 9 – Receive exemption approval
Receive approval from the home education unit. The school will also be notified
Reviewing and reporting
The South Australian Department of Education require reports on your child’s progress. These reports will be used as part of the registration process if you’re registering for another year of homeschooling. The reporting will be useful if you’re returning to a traditional classroom to share with the school.
Before the end of your child’s exemption period, you need to renew your child’s exemption by completing and submitting a home education review form. You need to provide information that demonstrates how the home education criteria have been met during the period of exemption, and details of future plans including learning goals for the next 12 months.
The South Australian Department of Education are looking for evidence that an appropriately planned and resourced learning program has been regularly implemented as determined by the needs and abilities of your child. They’re particularly looking for evidence of learning in literacy and numeracy.
You can do this by including in the report:
- completed workbooks or online
- program reports
- a child’s performance or demonstration of a skill
- a portfolio of annotated work samples or photographic journal
- documented learning outcomes and achievements
- examples of project work and topics of research
- a child’s learning journal or personal discoveries
We recommend submitting work samples from all learning areas. Using Euka’s Government Report Creator, once you’ve uploaded your child’s work samples and added your comments to the Government Report Creator dashboard located in your child’s Student Portal, we’ll collate the information into a report for you to submit to the Government.
The South Australian Government website and this Guide to Home Schooling document has more information about reporting.
