Registering and reporting for homeschooling in New South Wales
We understand that the mandatory registration process and reporting requirements for the NSW Government can feel daunting, confusing and overwhelming, not to mention time-consuming.
That’s why we’ve put together this guide, which gives you step-by-step instructions for registering and reporting.
And to streamline the process, Euka offers a Government Registration Service where we compile your child’s learning plans, and a Government Report Creator where we collate the report; to make it easier for you to submit the paperwork to the Government. These services can be purchased together or separately when you enrol your child for a full year (four consecutive terms).

Our Step by Step Guide
Registering your child
Homeschooling families in New South Wales with students aged from 6 to 17 are required to register with the NSW Department of Education.
The Government requires:
- an educational program based on relevant NSW syllabuses
- an educational program that caters for the identified needs of your child
- a system for planning, supervising and recording teaching and learning experiences
- a system for recording my child’s progress and achievement
- sufficient time allocated to learning, to allow coverage of the curriculum
- adequate resources to support my child’s learning
- your child’s birth certificate
Using Euka’s Government Registration Service, we’ll generate your child’s learning plans, so that you can submit the documentation to the Government. Euka can’t submit the application or contact the Government on your behalf; the Department of Education will only engage with the child’s parent or guardian.
Steps to register
Here are the steps to register with the NSW Department of Education if you’ve purchased Euka’s Government Registration Service.
Step 1 – Initial application
Apply online via the Government’s website or download the form and apply via email.
Step 2 – Enrol with Euka
Enrol your child with Euka and purchase the Government Registration Service and Government Report Creator.
Step 3 – Complete the Euka Registration questionnaire
Complete the Euka Registration questionnaire in the Parent Portal. Once we receive your response, we’ll generate your child’s learning plans within 48 hours.
Step 4 – Download learning plans
Download your child’s learning plans in the Parent Portal. You’ll need these plans for the Government Authorised Person visit.
Step 5 – Authorised Person visit
A Government Authorised Person (AP) will contact you within two to three weeks to arrange an assessment home visit of the application.
Step 6 – Unenroll from school
When you receive your registration certificate of approval from the Government, forward it to your child’s school to unenroll. If your child is unsafe at school, you’re entitled to remove your child from school with a doctor’s or psychologist’s letter, while waiting for the official registration from the Government.
Reporting and registration renewal
The NSW Department of Education requires reports on your child’s progress. These reports will be used as part of the registration process if you’re registering for another year of homeschooling. The reporting will also be useful to share with the school if you’re returning to a traditional classroom.
If you’re renewing the registration for your child for another year, the renewal forms should be submitted at least 3 months before the current registration expires.
We recommend submitting work samples from all learning areas. Using Euka’s Government Report Creator, once you’ve uploaded your child’s work samples and added your comments to the Government Report Creator dashboard located in your child’s Student Portal, we’ll collate the information into a report for you to submit to the Government.
The NSW Department of Education website has more information about reporting and re-registration.
